Paintings as responses to the beautiful yet broken world we live in, sometimes depicting brokenness but more often reflecting on the beauty and mystery of landscape, or the depth and character in a human face. Other subjects are also available.
Materials include oil paint on canvas, with graphite, charcoal, oil pastel, and less traditional media such as stove polish, occasionally thrown into the mix.
Techniques mostly employ palette knives, but also sponges, rags, paper edges, fingers – and sometimes even brushes. All are utilised to play with colours, layers and textures.
Approaches usually involve taking a best shot at a specific idea, then trying to improve it to the point where it can't be improved any further.
